Ferrari starts testing hybrid cars

Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo has revealed that the company has begun testing of hybrid drivetrain.

The famous automaker is currently testing a 599-based prototype vehicle.

No further details were given out.

The company said that they are trying to understand how they can benefit from the hybrid technology for their products before they can start implementing it in their on sale models.

Ferrari currently has aimed to reduce its CO2 emissions 40 percent by 2012.

Montezemolo added: “We are currently working on the development of a Ferrari that will use alternative energy sources and which will be based on what we are doing at the moment in Formula 1.”

He said however that a possible result of these technologies is still years away.
