MONEC Holding sues Apple for portraying iPhone as an ebook reader
Apple iPhone is primarily a mobile phone device that also works well as a portable media player and an internet access device.
Apple added the App Store to enhance the usability of the device. Apple iPhone is now a very capable handheld gaming device in addition to tons of other functionalities.
One of those includes ebook reading. Apple does not provide a native ebook reader application but several third party solutions exist.
The most popular one is the Amazon Kindle app for the iPhone which enables the user to access his Kindle library directly on the iPhone.
Berne, Switzerland-based MONEC Holding has now filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming they are violating their patents by portraying the iPhone as an ebook reader.
The lawsuit claims Apple is against their patent titled Electronic device, preferably an electronic book.
The patent includes references to a “light-weight” electronic device with a “touch-screen” LCD which is capable of displaying approximately one page of a book.
Basically, they are claiming that since iPhone has a touchscreen and it can be used as an ebook reader, it is infringing on their patent.
