Wikia Search is history as Google dominates
Wikipedia co founder Jimmy Wales had launched his ambitious Wikia Search project in 2006 with the aim of providing an alternative search engine to Google.
The aim was to use social intelligence to rank websites on this new search engine.
Apparently, the project failed to gain many users and it has now been abandoned.
Jimmy Wales said in a statement on decision to close down the project: “If there is one thing that I’ve learned in my career, it is to do more of what’s working, and less of what’s not.”
Wales admitted that the quality of search on the Wikia Search was not impressive enough.
He did added: “It’s something I care about deeply. I will return to again and again in my career to search, either as an investor, a contributor, a donor, or a cheerleader.”

Strange. I said from Day One that Wikia Search would not work, because its leader isn’t reliable and transparent.
In fact, my letter to the editor of Fast Company appeared in the second issue after the “Google Killer” claptrap cover story.
I got called a “troll”, for being right. Once again.
Maybe people will start listening to me now?
