Vevo: Universal Music Group and YouTube to launch a dedicated music videos service

Rumors were true indeed YouTube has collaborated with Universal Music Group to launch a dedicated music videos website with the aim of generating more revenues online.

This new service has been named Vevo and it would be launched later this year.

This could become the Hulu of music videos as it is likely to get support for other media giants in the USA.

The two companies have also renewed their deal to allow YouTube users to use music by Universal artists in their content without fearing legal actions against them.

YouTube and Universal would share the revenues generated through advertising on these services.

They describe Vevo as a “premium online music video hub built for consumers, advertisers and content owners.”

The two companies further spoke about Vevo: “This content will be exclusively available through VEVO.com and a new VEVO channel through a special VEVO branded embedded player. VEVO will bring the most compelling premium music video content and services to the world’s single largest online video audience. We believe that at launch, VEVO will already have more traffic than any other music video site in the United States and in the world.”
