Samsung showcases 7-megapixel camera mobile phone
While the world is moving towards convergence of digital music player and the mobile handsets, other companies are scaling new heights in the technology, which combines digital cameras with mobiles. Sony and Apple (along with Motorola) recently announced their range of upcoming products, which would combine the facilities provided by a normal MP3 player and a mobile phone in addition to the capability to buy and download songs from online music stores.
On the other hand, tech giant Samsung is touching new heights with their camera mobile phones. They just unveiled the world’s first mobile phone with a 7-megapixel camera. This is just one of their latest initiatives to improve the quality of cameras, which comes inbuilt with mobile handsets for high-end customers. They also became the first company to launch a mobile with a 5-megapixel camera way back in October last year.
They would be showcasing their latest development at the CeBIT forum. Their new offering interestingly also functions as a MP3 player and a business card reader. The company plans to launch it in this half of the year itself but refused to reveal any details on the pricing. Representatives of the company also said that the company is targeting a sales figure of 100 million mobile phones this year which is a 16% increase from their last years sales figure of 86 million units.
The basic problem which Samsung faces with their new products is the fact that the norm for a digital camera is set around 4-5 mega pixel capabilities. Anything larger than this is just an unnecessary upgrade and people might not take to it over existing products available in the market. However, it still poses an important challenge to the camera manufacturers like Kodak and Canon.

anything above 3 mp is un-necessary for a mobile phone. and how is it a threat to canon ? are the quality of pix really at par with digital cameras ? where are the samples ?

picture of high quality makes even unsignficant photo great one, the samsung idea of 7 mega pixel phone/camera is a geat idea instead of buying two expensive items , buy one in price of one.Go samsung for higher mega pixel, they have my support.
