Google limits YouTube access in South Korea
Google has now restricted web users from South Korea to post comments or upload videos on their YouTube service.
This step has been taken to avoid getting banned by the government which now requires popular web sites to verify the names of the users before letting them participate on their services.
South Korean web users are now required to submit their resident registration codes and names for verification.
Google has avoided going through this route as they do not want to get involved in massive privacy issues that might arise in the future due to this new development.
Google however admitted: “YouTube users will be allowed to watch videos and read comments as they always have, and will be able to embed the videos to other sites”.
The company added: “The changes are only effective to YouTube’s Korean site, so users could post videos and comments by choosing a version of a different country.”
