Google allows customization of Google News Page

If you are like me, newspapers are passé and even the online news sites are not good enough. We need a centralized resource for our news-feeding requirement. And Google News Beta page is a great online resource to check what is happening all around the world. It syndicates news from around 5000 news sources from all around the web and arrange them in order of importance depending upon various factors and algorithms.

Until now, the users of Google News had little freedom in customizing the look of the website. Google regularly released country specific versions of the Homepage to pick up regional stories in main categories. In addition, Google’s awesome search always existed to search news up to 30 days old from the Google’s database.

The latest news in would please many Google Supporters who prefer to read their daily dose of news on Google News. Following the facilities provided by competition in Yahoo! and MSN on their News sites, Google News is now quite comprehensively customizable. Google added these features to the Google News channel on Thursday.

The new features enable the users to move around the various channels and even remove them from their personal Google News pages. Even better, they can create blocks of news channels based on certain keywords of their choice. This let people keep track of their choice of news easily. Earlier the only way was to search for the keywords or subscribe to Google News Alerts.

Custom Google News Section

Google however has yet not decided on whether to start displaying advertisements on their News pages.

Now I really wish Google would release a Google News API! Or let their datetime parameter work as intended…
