BluWiki suing Apple to protect free speech
BluWiki is a public wiki designed to enable web users share information. One of the sections is designed to enable web users discuss how to make the most of their iPhone devices.
Apple threatened the service claiming that the section was against DMCA as it violated their policies regarding the iPhone device.
Apple does not allow unofficial third party applications on their iPhone and iPod Touch devices.
BluWiki has now sued Apple claiming what they are doing is free speech and since the site does not make any revenues through advertising they are not benefiting from it.
EFF Senior Staff Attorney Fred von Lohmann had this to say on the entire saga: “It’s legal to engage in reverse engineering in order to create a competing product, it’s legal to talk about reverse engineering, and it’s legal for a public wiki to host those discussions.”
