Microsoft in talks with Verizon for a mobile phone deal
Wall Street Journal has reported that Microsoft is in talks with Verizon Wireless over a possible deal related to Smartphone.
Microsoft is working with a third party manufacturer to launch a customized mobile phone that could be offered through Verizon Wireless.
Microsoft would be developing the software and hardware components while the manufacturing would be done by a third party.
This rumored device is likely to be powered by Windows Mobile OS (!) and would include custom applications including the new Windows Marketplace for Mobile.
This Smartphone has been codenamed Pink.
A Microsoft insider was quoted as saying: “We work closely with many mobile operators and device makers around the world because customers want different experiences on a variety phones.”
Microsoft has said it several times that they do not want to enter the mobile phone market as they are happy providing the software platform (Windows Mobile).
However, the success of the Apple iPhone might have forced them to change their mind. Google has also become a challenger in the mobile market with the launch of the Google Android mobile platform.
