Research in Motion to support America Online and Yahoo Messaging on BlackBerry

Makers of the popular wireless smart device BlackBerry, Research in Motion have announced a deal with the online services giants America Online and Yahoo Messaging on Tuesday. This deal would mean that users of BlackBerry would be able to access the Instant Messaging Services powered by ICQ, AOL, and Yahoo! in full color and GUI soon. This would give them capability to chat while on move.

RIM would as a result join the AOL’s Mobile Developer Platform and develop a fully branded mobile AIM and ICQ interface. Users would also be able to access their AOL mail through the device with this integration. For the existing users, RIM would be providing the update free of charge on the Internet.

Research in Motion representatives were quite pleased to announced this collaboration with the instant messaging giants. Mark Guibert, Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Research In Motion said in a statement: “With instant messaging enjoying continued growth, we are very pleased to be working with America Online. AOL’s mobile instant messaging services and RIM’s unique push-based BlackBerry platform will provide a convenient and powerful communications solution.”

In addition to AOL’s ICQ and AIM messaging applications, RIM has also signed a deal with Yahoo! to bring support for Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger on BlackBerry. It would be making use of the Push technology to send the messages to the users received on the Yahoo Applications.
