Alpha 680 could be the first Android powered netbook in market

Guangzhou Skytone Transmission Technologies has announced that they are testing a netbook model that would come powered with the Google Android platform.

They are aiming to make this model available in the retail market. It is expected to be powered with a low cost ARM processor.

The company said that they have already received 300 enquiries from interested customers.

Google Android platform has been designed primarily for the smartphones. However, it has been successfully installed on some netbook models.

It remains to be seen if netbooks powered by Android could become a commercial success considering the lack of applications for this platform.

Android is also optimized for small screen devices so it remains to be seen how it would perform on larger screens of netbooks.
