Apple faces copycat of its iPod Shuffle in Super Shuffle

Apple seems to have inspired more than just Microsoft with their developments. GUI based Mac OS became the base for Microsoft to develop their Windows Operating System albeit 10 years late. Now, we see Windows everywhere with Mac having an irrelevant market share. Same thing happened when Apple launched their iMac computers, which led to many hardware manufacturers releasing similar looking PCs. That led to the Macintosh maker suing various companies like eMachines and FuturePower protecting their design work.

The latest news in is that Apple now have a copycat for their iPod Shuffle. A cheap Digital Music player is making the rounds in the market and goes by the name of Super Shuffle. If the name was not enough the maker of the device LuxPro (a Taiwanese company) has made it to look exactly like the Apple iPod Shuffle.

The company has similar white colored casing and headphones matching the original Shuffle. Worse, they have added features missing from the original iPod Shuffle like a FM Tuner and voice recording capabilities. A bit larger in size, it tries hard to mimic the very successful Shuffle. Of course, it cannot support the Apple’s iTunes Music Store… so it does better with support for Microsoft’s PlayForSure technology and formats like MP3, MP3-VBR, WMA, WMA-DRM, and WAV (ADPCM).

Apple has been quite aggressive in the recent days with their work. They recently sued three online magazines, which leaked information on unreleased products from the Apple’s stable. The courts ruled in favor of the tech giant and gave them the power to ask the news sites to reveal their sources. It is unclear what steps Apple would be taking against LuxPro.

Calling the Super Shuffle cheap is the same as calling the real Shuffle cheap. I’m an Apple customer/enthusiast, but I won’t pretend that the iPod Shuffle is an original design or concept. Apple probably had about as much to do with it’s design as LuxPro did.
