Google PowerMeter to be used by electricity companies
Google has announced that they are collaborating with eight electricity providers around the world for their PowerMeter technology.
Six of these companies are in the US, one in Canada and one is from India.
Google said that they would work together to develop new generation of smart meters with its PowerMeter software.
The aim is to provide more information to the customers on their electricity consumption.
Google is already in the process of testing out the technology. Google said: “This program is perfectly aligned with Google’s mission of making the world’s information accessible and useful. Right now, you really don’t have access to this type of information, so the PowerMeter program is really useful.”
Google partners in this initiative are:
Glasgow EPB,
JEA,
Reliance Energy,
San Diego Gas & Electric,
Toronto Hydro–Electric System Limited,
TXU Energy,
White River Valley Electric Cooperative,
Wisconsin Public Service,
Itron
