Apple is scheduled to reveal more about iPhone 3.0 software update at their upcoming event scheduled for June.

The company could launch this new firmware. And they could also launch a brand new edition of the iPhone.

Online sources reveal that the new edition of iPhone would be much faster than the existing versions.

The first and second generation iPhones had practically the same CPU running at 400MHz. The new iPhone could get a major boost with a processor capable of performing at 600MHz.

The new iPhone could also pack in double the RAM of the current generation iPhones. Sources say that the new edition would feature 256MB RAM. Prices are expected to remain the same at USD 199 and 299 (US market).

However, Apple is likely to double the storage capacity in both the models (16GB and 32GB).

Another possibility is the addition of a magnetometer in the new iPhone which could result in a range of new applications with whole new possibilities.

The next edition of iPhone is also expected to feature an improved camera capable of video recording.

Of course, Apple has revealed nothing on any possibility of a new iPhone. We would know in a couple of weeks!
