Google sees Facebook as a rival in search!

Google has been dominating the search engine market for a long time now.

Both Microsoft and Yahoo have failed to provide enough challenge.

However, social networking is changing the market scenario and Google has admitted that Facebook is turning into a major rival in the search engine segment.

Google said that web users would prefer recommendations by their friends rather than random links provided by a regular search engine.

This gives Facebook massive advantage when it comes to searching for information online.

Google Group Product Manager Ken Tokusei said: “We haven’t gotten to the point where results are seen as if they come from someone you know.”

WolframAlpha is another interesting service that was launched recently. It is not essentially a search engine but it does provide features that Google currently fails to provide.

Things are finally getting interesting in the search market.
