Yahoo: Bing has not changed anything

Market analysts believe that Yahoo committed a blunder by not accepting Microsoft’s original acquisition offer.

Microsoft later showed interest in acquiring Yahoo’s search engine operations. Even that deal did not materialize.

The software giant continued working on their own search engine technology. And they have just launched Bing which is a solid improvement over Live Search.

This could be bad news for Yahoo if Bing starts taking away market share from Yahoo Search.

Yahoo however is not worried. At least that is what we get to hear from the company’s CEO Carol Bartz.

Bartz said: “Yahoo doesn’t have to do anything with Microsoft about anything.”

She almost sounds arrogant when she said: “We are a damned big, important site.”

She has already stated that they are open for an acquisition deal provided the buyer offers them boatloads of money.

Bartz had this to say about Microsoft Bing: “They’re not going to get scale through Bing. They’re going to get some temporary interest.”

It would take some time before we see if Bing can really change Microsoft’s fortune in the search engine market.

Google dominates this segment of the market comprehensively and they have little to lose if Bing does gain some customers in the coming months.

I think this is a very exciting move for the entire search industry. I’m sure this will lead into more ventures between the two giants.

Its funny hearing those words in retrospective, now that there is a deal between Bing and Yahoo.

We like adcenter for the great conversion rates of Bing’s traffic.. With Yahoo though we are forced to buy clicks from junk partners that send nothing but fake clicks.. It’s a daily job to monitor all the new bad-domains to block.. And you have to PAY for all that.. :P

With the current merge of Yahoo and Bing let’s hope the new “team” will do it RIGHT by giving the advertisers the choice to pay only for real yahoo/bing searches.. just like Adwords and adcenter allow (for now?).

    Just my 2 cents

    Cheers!
