China requires PCs to ship with web filtering software!
Wall Street Journal has reported that the Chinese government has now made it compulsory for all machines sold in the country to ship with web filtering software.
This software is to be designed to block a pre-configured list of web services. Customers would not get access to the list. But they would be able to add their own sites to block.
The developer of the technology said that the aim of the program is to protect the web users in the country from “harmful” content available on the web.
The software to be installed in all the machines is said to be named ‘Green Dam-Youth Escort’.
It would stay up to date with the latest list of blocked sites online.
China is already well known for their restrictions on the web. Even well known sites like YouTube and Facebook are routinely blocked in the country for various reasons.
