Symbian shakes hand with rivals Microsoft

Two of the biggest rivals in the mobile software application development market Symbian and Microsoft shook hands today to form a deal as per which Symbian will license synchronization software from Microsoft. This is being looked upon as a defeat for Symbian as they had to compromise and surrender to the software giant Microsoft. However, they would be hoping to get prospective clients who use Microsoft Exchange for e-mail to the Smartphones powered by their software.

Microsoft will be making the technology available to the clients of Symbian as well as a result of this development. Nokia and Fujitsu are two of the big names to benefit from this deal between the two big players of the mobile software market. Microsoft itself is continuing development of their own software applications in competition with Symbian platform and has collaborated with mobile manufacturers like Motorola and Samsung.

Symbian does not consider Microsoft’s advancement in their field as a threat yet as they have failed to take even 1% market share on the mobile platform. However, it might not remain like this in the coming days considering mobiles are becoming more popular than ever and generating revenues, which would make any company, go running behind it.

Symbian is playing their cards very coolly as a representative of the company said in a statement: “Microsoft isn’t a monolithic company. This is a deal we’ve done with their server division and is aimed to complete the portfolio of email solutions, so that people have the choice to receive emails whichever email system they use”.
