Virgin Media and Universal launches a new music subscription service

Richard Branson owned Virgin Media has announced the launch of a new music subscription service in collaboration with media industry giant Universal.

This service would allow Virgin Media’s broadband customers in Britain to download and listen to as many music files as they want for a fee.

The music files would be free of any DRM and can be played on a variety of devices.

They are aiming to make this service available later this year.

This is probably the first service of its kind between an Internet Service Provider and a major music label.

The aim is to reduce the rampant piracy on the networks of Virgin.
