Microsoft Zune HD comes with Nvidia ‘Tegra’ chip!

Microsoft has confirmed that their upcoming Zune HD portable media player would include the Nvidia ‘Tegra’ chip.

This is a big victory for Nvidia which has been touting the capabilities of this new chip technology.

Microsoft’s Matt Akers confirmed: “There’s been a lot of chatter about us possibly putting the Nvidia Tegra chip in the Zune HD. Well, we’re going to go ahead and confirm that. Yes, the Zune HD does have the Tegra chip in it. So much better battery life, graphics acceleration. This thing’s like a mini laptop in your hand.”

Tegra is incidentally the first graphic chip designed by Nvidia for such mobile devices.

The company is very optimistic about this platform. In fact, Nvidia Chief Executive Jen-Hsun Huang recently claimed that this chip platform would account for half of Nvidia’s business in a few years.

Microsoft Zune HD now seems to be more than just a potential challenger to the Apple iPod Touch!
