Google aims to run Android on consumer electronics
Google has admitted that Android would move beyond smartphones at some point in the future.
The company could eventually power consumer electronics using this mobile platform.
Andy Rubin, Google’s vice president of engineering said in a statement: “We are agnostic to the physical infrastructure that we are running on. Fundamentally, we are trying to connect them all.”
Google Android is already being used by HTC to power a couple of their smartphone models.
Other companies have been slow with the development though things are likely to change by the end of the year.
Google is expecting at least 15 to 20 Android phones being launched by the end of 2009.

Since Microsoft de-emphasized Windows CE and pushed Windows Mobile there’s been a pretty large hole in the embedded OS market with Linux the only major player, with it’s associated problems of lack of enterprise-level support.
With Android being layered over a linux kernel, and the backing of a major player like Google – embedded developers will find going with Android a no-brainer.
