Oh noes. MSN Soapbox being shut down… YouTube Wins!
Google has scored yet another convincing victory against Microsoft.
The US based software giant has announced that they are closing down their MSN Soapbox service.
MSN Soapbox was launched as a rival service to Google YouTube. But it failed miserably.
Microsoft has revealed that users would no longer be able to upload videos to Soapbox from the end of this month.
They would have till August 31st to download their previously uploaded videos.
The company would continue to run MSN Video service which does not host user submitted content.

Not sure I get this. Google loses 1/2 billion a year on YouTube and has yet to create any sustainable monetization opportunities for the site years after spending 1.6 billion buying it. It has probably gone so far as to drag down overall shareholder value as there is clearly only legal liability for the piracy enabling site and there are pending lawsuits to prove it. So… how exactly did Google score a convincing victory against Micro$soft? That’s so 2006….

industry experts also believe that google likes the market to believe that it is losing a lot of money on youtube which might or might not be true.
online video is not going anywhere. google is pretty serious about youtube. it would be profitable soon enough if it is not already for them.
