Samsung and Intrinsity announces a 1GHz mobile processor
Samsung and Intrinsity have together announced a new mobile processor that could someday power the Apple iPhone.
This new mobile processor from Samsung is rated at 1GHz.
It is similar in architecture to the processor that currently powers the Apple iPhone.
Apple iPhone 3GS is powered with a 600MHz Samsung processor based on the ARM Cortex A8 design.
Samsung has codenamed their new processor Hummingbird.
Market analyst Tom R. Halfhill spoke about this processor and the iPhone possibility: “Yes, I think it’s possible. Samsung could drop Hummingbird into the existing S5PC100 design with few or no changes. Bingo! A next-gen iPhone that could run at speeds up to 1.0GHz.”
