Yahoo sees potential in real-time search

Yahoo has just entered into a long term search deal with Microsoft which would see Bing power their own search engine in the coming days.

The company however is now looking at real time search functionalities which is becoming more and more popular.

Yahoo representative Prabhakar Raghavan said that they are now considering using content from Twitter to provide up to date results on trending topics.

Incidentally, Twitter itself is now highlighting their own search engine on their homepage to enable users to see what’s going on in the world at any given time.

Raghavan said: “I’ve always held that the interesting thing of Tweets is not necessarily searching them but mining them. So we could real-time mine them, then assemble what we mine into the search engine.”

He however clarified that the statement does not mean Yahoo would launch a definite product in the future based on this concept.
