Sony to support ePub open format on its eBook reader models!

Shocking update from Sony. The company known for their closed formats and technologies is going to support ePub open format in their eBook reader models.

The company has little choice. Amazon Kindle is the market leader when it comes to eBook readers. And they have few options to take on the Kindle.

Sony said that they are going to complete the conversion of the eBooks to the new format by the end of the current year.

The new format ePub has enough copyright controls to empower the publishers to keep the sanctity of their digital work.

Steve Haber, president of Sony’s digital reading business division spoke about the new developments: “Consumers should not have to worry about which device works with which store.”

ePub format can be accessed from PCs and Macs along with mobile devices like the iPhone and Android.
