Google not sure about News Corporate new policy with online news

News Corporation has announced that they are going to start charging for all of their news services.

This would include access to their services through mobile applications offered on the Blackberry and Apple iPhone platforms.

The company is going to make these services paid from next month.

In fact, Rupert Murdoch has claimed that news has become more important than ever before and that’s why it is necessary to charge for it.

Google however is not sure if this model is going to work.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt said in a statement: “In general these models have not worked for general public consumption because there are enough free sources that the marginal value of paying is not justified based on the incremental value of quantity. So my guess is for niche and specialist markets … it will be possible to do it but I think it is unlikely that you will be able to do it for all news.”

It remains to be seen if web services like WSJ would generate more revenues by locking all the free users out.

What do you think? Are you ready to pay for exclusive news content online? Or is freely available news good enough for most of you?
