Windows XP Service Pack 2 would download automatically from April 12

Corporations and businesses currently vary of upgrading to the Service Pack 2 of the Windows XP Operating System might find themselves being forced to download it from the 12th of the current month. Until now, the software giant allowed the users to avoid downloading the security enhanced update while checking out the Windows Update feature of the Operating System.

Microsoft would be removing that ability next week to get more users upgraded to SP2. As a result, many companies might find their computers downloading the SP2 while using the update feature. A recent report from the company AssetMetrix claimed that many companies avoided making the update to prevent technical problems. However, this latest news would be causing them some headaches.

Microsoft on the other hand has downplayed the excitement around this news. They claim that there are very few of their customers who preferred to use the blocking to avoid making the upgrade. Smaller companies and users are already not covered under that program leading to few hassles during the process.

Experts have recommended that the companies who indeed used the blocking tool should start upgrading now to prevent large-scale technical issues happening together on April 12 when these updates take place. Also interesting is the fact that the due date is also the second Tuesday of the month when Microsoft usually releases their bug fixes on a monthly basis. Looks like technical departments in these companies would be having a busy week next week!
