Intel and AMD competes to release Dual-Core Processors first

While we wait for the 64-Bit processors to become popular and more accessible in the market, the microprocessor giants Intel and AMD are competing to become the first one to release the Dual Core processors for Desktop Computers. Both these companies are working hard on their development cycles to bring out the chip faster in the retail market than the original plans.

Market leaders Intel has surprised many with their decision to allow reviewers to make the benchmarks public of the test samples of their Dual Core Processors. On the other hand, AMD had originally declared that their processors using this Dual Core technology should be available during the mid of the year. Now they are dropping hints of a possible earlier launch. They are due to make an announcement later this month when they would be celebrating the second anniversary of the Opteron.

AMD would have to make extra effort to prevent Intel from taking the initiative considering the brand value the company has. AMD has been selling 64-Bit processors since a long time but the market is hotting up now with Intel soon going to launch their own 64-Bit processors for the Desktop Computers.

Intel dominates the processor market quite comprehensively with around 82% of the market share. AMD holds around 16% with lesser-known brands completing the tally.
