AT&T: Google is against Network Neutrality

AT&T has fired back against Google claiming that the search engine giant behaves like a hypocrite when it comes to network neutrality principals.

The mobile industry giant said that Google blocks some phone calls made to their Google Voice numbers.

AT&T representative Robert Quinn had this to say on this issue: “By openly flaunting the call-blocking prohibition that applies to its competitors, Google is acting in a manner inconsistent with the spirit, if not the letter, of the FCC’s fourth principle contained in its Internet Policy Statement. Ironically, Google is also flouting the so-called ‘fifth principle of nondiscrimination’ for which Google has so fervently advocated.”

Google has already responded to these allegations. The company said in a blog post that they are indeed blocking some calls in areas but that is because some local companies charge a bit too much to long distance companies to provide connectivity to their areas.
