Duke University to continue with their iPod Program

Duke University has decided to continue their pilot project of giving away an Apple iPod to freshers entering the University to help them make use of the gadget in their work assignments and language classes. They would in fact now cover not only the freshers but also all the class levels.

However, the giveaway this time would be in a more organized manner as only the students of the courses who would benefit from this device would be covered under the program. Last year, they distributed almost around 1600 iPods to their first year students. The student owns the iPod as the college pays for it out of a special technology fund.

Interestingly, the college has received many more innovative ideas on how to use the iPod in course curriculum. Representative of the University, Lynne O’Brien said: “One of the pleasant surprises was that the faculty had a lot more ideas about using them than we had initially thought. Our approach last year was to put it out there and see what people might be interested in doing.”

Students used their iPods from anything from taking audio notes, speech classes, and even Podcasting, which has been a growing trend in the recent times. In fact, students can now download radio shows from the website and use their iPods to listen to them at convenient times making it all so interesting for them. Apple as the gadget provider is also happy with the response they are getting from the educational institute.
