Apple behind Intel’s Light Peak technology

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple playing a big hand in the development of Light Peak technology by Intel.

The report states that Apple pushed the concept to Intel in 2007 with the aim of developing a super fast cable standard that could one day replace existing technologies like USB, FireWire, and DisplayPort.

As a result, industry experts believe that Apple would adopt this technology pretty quickly in their products. It could become part of their Macs in addition to the iPod, iPhone and even the much rumored Apple Tablet PC.

The technology is based on optical signaling and is capable of achieving an initial throughput of 10Gbps. Intel claims that users would be able to transfer a full-length Blu-Ray movie in less than 30 seconds.
