Dell says AMD is a possibility depending upon demand
AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) has a minor share in the massively profitable Microprocessors market with Intel having the bulk of the market share. They need to get as much support from the big Computer manufacturers which are generally vary of the AMD Processors due to lack of infrastructure to provide support for such a huge demand. However, times are changing and people are getting used to preferring AMD instead of Intel for their computers.
Major manufacturers of branded computers are still undecided on AMD as their preferred business partner. Dell is one such company totally indecisive about moving to AMD processors. The latest news in is that the company has expressed views that if customers start demanding computers powered by AMD, they would be more likely to start offering more products with AMD chips.
For now, they are using Intel as their chief supplier of PC Processors. Dell has been since long refusing to use Advanced Micro Devices Inc. chips. Dell Chief Executive Kevin Rollins spoke to the media at a press conference of Dell’s annual analysts’ meeting: “We are still looking at AMD; they have fairly good technologyâ€. However, it might not be an easy task for them considering a lot more effort would be required to make the other components optimized for this new hardware.
