AMD advances date for the launch of their Dual Core Microprocessors
The rumors are on. Speculation was rife that in response to Intel’s plans to release their dual core processors, AMD would rush their own plans to launch similar processors. This would allow them to gain first-mover advantage in the market. Originally planned for a mid year launch, AMD is now expected to release their versions of the dual-processors chip by the end of the current month!
This technology has a lot of potential to change the basics of computing in the desktop computers market. It brings two processing cores on the same platform, which performs independently bringing comprehensive performance boost to the overall system. Intel recently unveiled the benchmarks of their upcoming chips through online review sites. This possibly made the AMD to rethink their strategy to wait for some more time for their launch.
Both the companies have been quite slow in improving the speeds of the current generation of processors due to the limitations provided by the technology. This led to the focus shifting of the development cycle towards the 64-bit and dual core processors market. Two processors on one chip is not a new technology so as to speak. However, desktop computers based on wintel platform would enjoy this advancement only with these coming releases.
AMD has already taken the initiative in the 64-bit processor market as they have been selling these chips for quite sometime now. Intel is expected to be out with their version quite soon. Looks like AMD wants to do the same with Intel in the Dual Core Processor market. The announcement is expected to be made on April 21.
