Channel 4 to provide its shows on YouTube
Channel 4 has signed on a major deal with Google that would allow YouTube to broadcast their television shows online.
Sources say that the two parties had been discussing this deal for a couple of months now.
These shows would be made available online after they have been aired on the television.
YouTube users would get access to these shows for free. Channel 4 would generate revenues through advertising.
They are also going to make available content from their archives on YouTube.
Andy Duncan, the Channel 4 chief executive spoke about this deal: “Making our programmes directly accessible to YouTube’s 20 million UK users will financially benefit both Channel 4 and our independent production partners and help bolster our investment in quality British content. It demonstrates our ability to strike dynamic commercial partnerships to help underpin our future as a commercially funded, not-for-profit multi-platform public service network.”
