Americans are Getting Used to SPAM Mails
While laws get tougher for spamming on the Internet and courts send mass spammers to jail, people on the other hand are getting used to this nuisance. It has been found in a recent survey that Internet Spam no longer irritates users as much as it used to do in the past. Pew Internet and American Life Project conducted the survey on United States based web users and released the report.
Deborah Fallows of the Pew Internet Project said in a statement: “We see a little more spam with a little less distress since Congress tried to stem the flow of unsolicited email with the CAN-SPAM Act in January 2004.†The basic result of the survey is that people are getting used to the spam as they have got used to the pollution and traffic in general life. It has become a part of daily routine to receive and delete spam.
The other findings of the survey showed 28% users were receiving more spam on their personal accounts the ever before while 22% were receiving less of them. While for job emails, 21% of the users got more spam while 16% fewer spam mails in their inboxes. However, the worst report of the survey was that 53% of the users reported that they were losing trust in e-mail exchange due to Spam mails. Perhaps Phishing is a big reason for this, which has become a headache for banks and credit card companies.
However, users are happy that the spam mails containing pornographic material have decreased in the recent years. Fallows said in her statement as the bottom-line: “We know people like their email. In a way this is like a way of fighting back: They’re just going to go on with their email and deal with it.â€
