Intel’s Dual Core Processors should be out this month-end

Intel might have just pulled a rabbit out of their hat as they announced at the Intel Developer Forum in Taiwan that their Dual Core microprocessors named ‘extreme edition’ have started shipping in the retail market and could reach the end users before the end of the month. This would come as a surprise for their main rivals AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) who were themselves planning to come with an announcement later this month related to their launch of the AMD Dual Core Processors.

The renewed competition from AMD had forced Intel to fasten their development of the chip. They were delayed quite a bit on their 64-bit offerings where AMD took the early advantage. Intel has also started delivering their 64-Bit processors in the market with Microsoft expected to release enhanced 64-Bit versions of their Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Operating System sometime next month.

General Manager of Intel’s Digital Enterprise Group, Abhi Talwalkar said in a statement to the press: “We just passed an important milestone. Intel is shipping the Intel Pentium Processor Extreme Edition 840 running at 3.2 GHz and Intel 955X Express Chipsets, Intel’s first dual-core processor-based platform, to our customers.”

Intel is planning to target the high-performance desktop computers market for their Dual Core Processors while AMD would be targeting the Server market. Which one out-performs the other is something we should know in the coming months with both the processors arriving in the market.
