Google Fading Homepage: This space intentionally left blank
Google has been testing a new version of their homepage which fades all the text content on the homepage after the user loads it.
The aim is to have the entire focus on the search box. User can move the mouse to reveal the buttons or just press enter to search.
Google seems to have updated this new design homepage with a message that states: “This space intentionally left blank”.
We are assuming that this message is for people who got confused with the new UI which is shown to random set of visitors to Google homepage.
This is informative we guess but ruins the whole idea!

It is also a reference to the 1980 text-based computer game Zork, which is a play on the name of the author of the game, Marc Blank. In the game, there is a wall that has a message on it, which states "This space intentionally left blank."

There's also a similar reference in classic novels and books…
the blank white pages at beginning and end, sometimes there's the text:
"This Page Intentionally Left Blank"
Which could be the reference that Zork is playing on… dunno.
Either way, power-to-Google for trying to make this ignorant world do some thinking for a change… I like a good reason to search the net for answers every now-and-then.

i think its a very smart UI change.
the first time i saw the change i was like,”that’s fast. no more clutter.”
it makes sense to me since i already know i want to go to google to search.
and that’s what it does. it prominently display the search bar. which is the #1 thing google wants us to see when we visit.
so if u ask me. it makes sense the first moment i saw the change.
whether it really loads faster or just an impression that it loads faster is secondary.

of course it is unlikely to load fast because of the extra javascript code involved.
