Skype founders settle differences with eBay
US based online retailing giant eBay has settled their legal differences with the founders of the Skype service which is now owned by them.
Skype would now get the ownership of the technology that power its engine. This technology was originally licensed by eBay from Joltid which was founded by Skype co-founders Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis.
In return, Zennstrom and Friis will get a 14 percent stake in Skype.
Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis have also promised to make investments in Skype.
eBay is in the process of selling majority of Skype to an investor group. The deal would now see the following ownership ratio:
Investors: 56%
eBay: 30%
Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis: 14%
This deal is good news for Skype users around the world as it removes the doubts on whether the service would be able to operate in the future or not.
eBay was rumored to be working on their own technology to power Skype.

Skype automatically delete your credits after inactity — that policy is nothing short of theft. I could see doing it after a year of inactivity…. I use skype for traveling and am ready to go on a trip next month and now lost my credits. I find it disturbing that Skype was so put-out to have my credits on their books — what a burden! — That they had to delete them.
Skype stinks! It's not the money, it's the thought of the Stalinist policy that really ticks me off.
