Gordon Moore speaks highly of Paul Otellini

On May 18, Paul Otellini would be taking over as the fifth CEO of the tech giant Intel from Craig Barrett. He would be the latest in the lines of great people to have led the world’s largest microprocessor company including Robert Noyce, Gordon Moore, and Andrew Grove. And he is already being spoken highly by some big names.

Gordon Moore, famous for his Moore’s Law spoke to journalists in Europe from Hawaii: “Otellini has gotten steeped in the technology for microprocessors. He’s certainly much more technical in that area than I ever was than Andy ever was. The fact that his education may not have been technical, I don’t think is any disadvantage at all after some 30 years in the industry.” Paul has been a part of the company since 1974 and was appointed the president and chief operating officer in the year 2002.

Moore also talked in the meeting about his famous words regarding the performances of the computer chips. The saying came to be known as the Moore’s Law, is now 40 years old, and has stood the challenges posed by the changing times. Moore said that he was amazed that the industry has maintained its exponential growth pace for so long. However, he was quite optimistic about the future and said: “Obviously, nothing like this can continue for ever … Dimensions are small enough now that we’re approaching the size of atoms. That’s a clear limitation that’s rather fundamental”
