WiMax Might Improve the Wireless Range to More Than 5 Miles
Intel recently announced their plans to mass produce and release processors aimed to power WiMax enabled devices. Their partners for the further advancement of this technology include big names like Qwest, British Telecom, tech giants Siemens and Texas Instruments. The aim is to get the prices of the devices powered by WiMax to affordable levels so that mass public can adapt them in huge numbers thus making it the next global wireless standard.
The company is supported by other tech giants like AT&T to enhance WiMax to enable its capabilities to reach levels that the range of these wireless devices extends beyond 5 miles. The technology is not expected to reach common homes for a couple of years, as the corporations would be doing ground testing of WiMax in real life scenarios.
Market Analysts are optimistic about the potential of WiMax due to the big names supporting the technology. There have been similar attempts in the past to enhance wireless Internet connectivity but they were on a limited scale. WiMax appears to be the first attempt that could reach globally and become a possible standard for the future.
The technology is basically an enhanced version of the now common Wi-Fi technology, which works on a much smaller scale.
