British engineer wins Intel’s prize money for Moore’s Law Magazine hunt
Some days back, the microprocessor giant Intel launched a mission to get back an original copy of the magazine, which carried for the first time the statement from one of their founders Gordon Moore. The statement became the legendary Moore’s Law and the magazine was the April 1965 issue of Electronics.
A British engineer collected the USD 10,000 prize money from Intel for turning in his near-mint copy of the said issue. Earlier this month, the tech giant announced this award hoping for someone to drop in with his or her issue of the prized magazine issue. David Clark is the lucky guy who is from Surrey, England. He found this copy under the floorboards of his house among piles of other publications. In his words: “It is the most bizarre thing that has ever happened to me”.
Rumors are also out that many libraries had to take extra care in case bounty hunters hunt down the issue to their archives and steal it for the money. Intel put the challenge on the popular eBay online auction website. In fact, the University of Illinois has reported that their copy of the magazine has already been stolen.
Intel reported that the challenge turned out around 2 dozen valid leads but only a few were the original magazines. Clarke’s was the best one of the lot and hence the lucky engineer took the cash award. The company now plans to put the magazine on public display at the company’s museum in its Santa Clara, California headquarters.
