Bill Gates promises a safer online environment with Longhorn
Security seems to be the mantra for Microsoft and its chairperson Bill Gates who just unveiled the new test version of the upcoming Windows operating system codenamed Longhorn. During a conference, Bill outlined plans for their upcoming operating system expected to be unveiled in public sometime next year. He also claimed that the new version would provide a safer working environment on the Internet.
As per Gates, the combination of Longhorn with the powerful processors of today would enhance the security against Spyware, and Phishing websites. In his words: “The new x64 versions of Windows will take advantage of 64-bit architecture advances that help block some of the most destructive worms and exploits of recent yearsâ€.
Both Intel and AMD now have the processors ready in the 64-bit segment and Microsoft plans to compliment them with 64-bit capable Operating Systems. This combination would massively increase the capabilities of the integrated system for graphics, games, and other complex functions for users of Windows.
Gates also added: “The next decade will bring about a new wave of innovation in the technology industry through the increased security, greater reliability, and faster performance enabled by 64-bit computing and continued advances in Windows. Longhorn’ and the new x64-bit versions of Windows are the best foundation for a new generation of faster, more powerful hardware and software that expands the possibilities for computing and transforms the way we work and play.â€
