GoDaddy.com is now World’s largest Domain Name Registrar
This is one news, which puts the faith of the user back in good service providers. GoDaddy is one of the most popular domain registration companies on the Internet. We at TechWhack have heard only good things about them. Moreover, we use them for our own domain related work. Therefore, it was good to hear that the company is now World’s largest Domain Name Registrar. The company already was the largest registrars of new domains for the last 3 years.
GoDaddy took over the crown from Network Solutions to now have the maximum domain names under management, to become the world’s No. 1 ICANN-accredited domain name registrar for the .COM, NET, .ORG, .INFO, .BIZ, and .US domain extensions. These stats were released by domain industry analyst Name Intelligence, Inc on April 20.
Bob Parsons, president and founder of The Go Daddy Group, Inc. was ecstatic about this news and said in a statement: “From 2002 - 2004, GoDaddy.com led the domain name industry in terms of net growth and new domain names registered. Now that we are number one in terms of domain names under management, we are truly the world’s No. 1 registrar in every category. We achieved this position through hard work, perseverance and without acquiring any other registrars.”
GoDaddy also happens to be the fastest growing technology company on the Inc. 500 List of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies. It is placed number 8th in the overall positions. It started doing business in November 2000 and has since than continuously eroded Network Solutions’ monopoly of new domain booking and domain under administration.
The reporting company Name Intelligence’s Jay Westerdal, CEO has these words for GoDaddy: “”GoDaddy.com’s rise to the preeminent domain name registrar — initially in new domain registrations, and now in domains under management — is a watershed event in the history of the domain name industry. This is the first time that any registrar, other than Network Solutions, has ever held the No. 1 position.”
