Audi bringing in A4 to India

The German automotive giant has big plans for the Indian market. They entered in a small way through their subsidiary Skoda that had an incredible run with their Octavia car. Now the mother company has decided to make a mark with some of the finest cars from their stables. The latest model planned for India is the incredible A4, which reports say is due to enter the Indian market sometime in July 2005. It is to be powered by a 2.0 liter TDi engine and the costing is expected to be priced around 25-27 lakhs.

Audi has already released bigger models A6 and A8 in the Indian market. This smaller variant is aimed towards the massively popular Mercedes Benz C Class. Both these cars are competitors in many automobile markets around the world. Mercedes is selling around 100 C-Class cars in India and Audi would be aiming to eat away a chunk of that.

A4 is expected to arrive in India with the 2-liter direct injection turbo diesel engine, which would give it around 140 bhp. The company is however not sure about what petrol variant to bring in. they offer the car in the international market with around 10 engine options. India is expected to receive 1-2 at max. A4 also comes with a multitronic gearbox, which is a seven speed continuously variable automatic transmission. It is tuned for better engine efficiency and is expected to give the car good fuel efficiency.

Market Analysts expect the car to be available for sale in India sometime in the middle of the current year. Audi is planning to launch this car as a CBU and in spite of this; the company has promised that they would price it lower than the competing Mercedes C-Class Model.
