With the launch of its latest range of mobile phones, which does a lot more than just communicating, Nokia plans to become the latest competitor to the Apple’s iPod and digital camera manufacturers. The latest models come with high-end camera phone with Carl Zeiss optics and a handset with enough storage for music.

The company said that the newly formed collaboration with the Germany’s Carl Zeiss AG would bring “design expertise and stringent quality requirements … for high-end camera devices”. They plan to release more devices powered by their combined expertise in the coming days. Nokia’s chief executive Jorma Ollila said during the presentation ceremony that they plan to ship more than 100 million camera phones and 40 million mobile devices with MP3 music players.

Ollila said: “Digital camera phones have really been the growth area in the mobile handset business and Nokia has turned to be a clear leader in this area.” The presentation ceremony took place at an industry fair in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Latest reports also indicate that the company has gained market share during the first two months of the year to 31.3 percent. Last year their market share was close to around 28.5 percent.

They are being closely followed by Motorola and Samsung.
