NASA might delay Space Shuttle again

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has again decided to delay the launch date of the Space Shuttle. This was reported by the government officials though NASA is yet to confirm the news. It is now scheduled to take off to space sometime in middle of July month. The delay as per the news is to take care of the concerns over fuel tank debris. This was the second postponement from the space agency in this month alone for what is perhaps the most important mission for NASA in this century.

NASA’s latest announcement puts the launch date on July 12 and this renewed gap would give the space agency more time to look into the risks posed by the loss of ice and foam from the large shuttle external fuel tank. This in addition to the massive work already undertaken on overhauling the security factors related to the Shuttle.

All this became compulsory after the last shuttle mission ended in devastation for the nation. Columbia disintegrated in the Space while coming back to earth from its mission from space on Feb. 1, 2003. That accident grounded the shuttle fleet. The original date of launch for the mission was earlier planned to be May 15, which was moved to May 22 some days back. It remains to be seen if NASA has to take further decisions into delaying the launch of the Space Shuttle.
