Google Energy can now buy and sell electricity!
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has now given its approval to the search engine giant Google to buy and sell electricity just like many other companies operating in the country.
This would enable Google to better manage its own power consumption. Google might also enter this market with their own offerings.
The ability to deal in power has been given to Google Energy which is a unit of the online giant.
Google had spoken about the need to have this approval: “Right now, we can’t buy affordable, utility-scale, renewable energy in our markets. We want to buy the highest quality, most affordable renewable energy wherever we can and use the green credits.”
The company later spoke when they formed the Google Energy unit: “We don’t have any concrete plans. We want the ability to buy and sell electricity in case it becomes part of our portfolio.”
