Bruce McCandless joins the Astronaut Hall of Fame

Bruce McCandless is mostly known to be the first human satellite in the space. He did this in the year 1984 when he flew in the space with a hefty spacewalker’s jetpack. His face was hidden behind his helmet but the shots of that event still manage to excite the space fans. He has now been inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.

Now 67, Bruce was ecstatic about this news and said to the gathering at the event: “For those of you who work here or have worked here at the Kennedy Space Center, I have a few words… thank you, thank you and thank you”. The shuttle commander of the mission during which he did his remarkable task, Vance Brand spoke about the event: “I knew I couldn’t come back and tell Bernice that we’d lost Bruce.” He was referring to Bruce’s wife of 45 years.

McCandless achieved the feet using a device manufactured by the space agency NASA that they called the manned maneuvering unit. He was also part of the crew, which actually delivered the much in news nowadays Hubble Space Telescope in the space around 15 years back. The space telescope is currently facing a tough time with NASA finding it hard to produce funds to save the aging technological marvel.

Along with Bruce McCandless, two more astronauts found places in the Astronaut Hall of Fame. They are Joseph Allen, 67 and Gordon Fullerton, 68. They join the elite group of 18 astronauts already present in the Hall of Fame.
