Apple updates the iMac lineup

Apple has updated its range of iMac computers. This comes just a couple of days after the launch of their latest Operating System offering in Tiger. The new iMacs come with PowerPC G5 processors up to 2.0 GHz and include built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Apple is also delivering the Tiger OS now with these updated machines.

Two of these updated iMac also come with new 8X optical drive with double-layer DVD support. All of these three machines however come with feature integrated Gigabit Ethernet, 512MB of memory to start, and iLife ‘05, Apple’s suite of digital creation and entertainment tools such as iPhoto, iMovie, and iTunes.

The prices of these updated machines start from USD 1299. The cheapest iMac at this price comes with a 17-inch LCD monitor, 1.8GHz PowerPC, 160GB hard drive, and a DVD/CD-RW optical drive. The other two offerings are relatively expensive at USD 1,499 and USD 1,799.

Apple is quite happy with their offerings as one of their senior representative said during the launch: “Reviewers have called the iMac G5 ‘the most elegant desktop computer in the world’ and now it’s getting even better”. Apple also updated its eMac all-in-one Tuesday to include a faster 1.42GHz chip along with Tiger. The company had similarly updated their top-of-the-line G5-powered desktops last week.
