Maruti Suzuki Swift – Anticipation is high from the Consumers
We do not see this everyday. Maruti has not even launched the car in the market. We have not even seen the advertisements on the television. And the prospective consumers are already waiting for the product, as it is the best thing to happen since sliced bread! Maruti is due to launch its latest model from the Suzuki range Swift sometime later this month and the anticipation is high amongst the consumers.
Perhaps the last time such a thing happened was when the company launched their Maruti 800 model in the market when cars like Fiat’s Premier Padmini and Ambassador ruled the roads of India. Suzuki Swift is a perfect model for the Maruti to launch at this time. The company is suffering issues with its brand value. People have come to expect generation old models from the company.
Companies like Hyundai and even Mercedes Benz is here with all their latest products, which are so successful in the market that the market leader is finally feeling the pressure of being complacent. No one bothers to look towards the Suzuki Vitara model when they have Hyundai Tucson and Honda CRV to choose from. And no one is bothering to checkout Maruti Esteem with Hyundai Accent providing a decent alternative.
Maruti Suzuki Swift is a car, which might change the way people look at Maruti as an automobile company. The product is refreshing, just out from the drawing board. It is contemporary and it is going to be feature packed. Maruti has to price it right to make it a success out of the showroom and we guess they know it pretty well already.

The boot, especially its opening, is too small. The car can only be runabout in cities. For a city runabout it costs too much.
The literature & the experts are too silent on the fuel consumption. It is interesting to know how much fuel this car weighing 150 kgs more than the esteem will consume with an engine that has 2 BHP more. The cost for a city runabout should be ideally sub-three lakhs. Rather the Santro, Alto, Wagon R than the SWIFT.

lemme tell u somthin people…. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE AN ESTEEM ENGINE….87 BHP n a heavier engine n body ( esteem prolly has an all-al engine…)…. n tho i m also concerned abt d mileage.. but d uk model has a mileage of 13-14…n it has the same engine…n 13-14 is d max i can expect from a hot hatch…. ( but had it been skoda, it cud b 18-20 n i wud’nt bat an eyelid.. tho, the car wud hav been 6 l for d base model)…

Swift has a very small boot. Opening of the boot, too, is small. Therefore it is merely a passenger car without luggage. It can at best be a run- about in cities. But then its cost makes it prohibitive for a city run-about. Similarly, available literature and M/S Maruti are both silent on its fuel consumption. It will be interesting to learn as to how much fuel this car weighing 150 kgs more than the Esteem and having an engine delivering 2 BHP more power than the Esteem will consume. Therefore the questios are:
1. What is the role of a large & expensive hatch back with hardly any boot space ?. 2. Can a car costing over three lakhs fit into the role of a run about?. 3. Can a car with unknown fuel consumption be marketed easily in these times of spiralling fuel costs? 4. Is not it sensible to await a diesel (Multi jet) variant ? 5. Is it the appropriate time to go for Super Mini in India.

If you want to buy a Swift, I think its the worst option.. yesterday I went to the showroom to have a test drive. The looks were awesome, but I am a person who doesn’t go on looks, I have managed to take a test ride from Begumpet to rajbhavan road onto necklace road and then back to begumpet, I’ve observed there is no pickup inspite of maruti claiming it has 87 bhp power, The vehicle is not at all stable, at jus 80 kmph I didn’t feel secured, The vehicle has absolutely no balance.. Generally the test ride is given only for 2-3 kilometers and Im sure without driving atleast 10-12 kilometers with variations, one cannot come to a conclusion. I myself drove it for over 10-12 kilometers insisting to the company executive. It doesn’t have pickup in even second gear when needed. I would suggest people to wait atleast for 6 months and buy it after carefully reviewing it.

Its a great car, great looks on the outside, but budgeting on the plastics especially on the side panels and the wipers really suck. And there’s this big void , there’s no music system!!!!!That was hardly expected of a car with these features. I booked the ZXI as soon as the news came out and i expected a music system with surround matching the other features. The after sales is bad too, backed up with Maruti’s strict injunction against any offers!!! To summarise i feels its great engineering levelled by really bad management.Needless to say that would drive a lot of the crowd its intended for, away.

I don buy some of the comments being given by some individuals, reason being i my self have tested it i don find any probs in the boot,if u compare hundai gets or even for that matter ford fusion,i don think they have that huge or large boot space, compared to other mid segements,ll i am a big (mul) fan i my self is mul customer(esteem)So people wait for some time this car is gona rok.
all the best team (mul)
rahul.

I think the Swift is the most beautiful car in India.Looking at this car no one can believe that it is from the stables of Maruti Suzuki. Not only its looks but its performance, suspension and features are too good. This car is definately the best in India.

the looks are great. but with rising oil prices what about the fuel consumption in our narrow city roads. can the car really swift economically for users like us. self drive about 1500 to 2000km per month

swift is a really different car from mul. somebody told it is a vintage model car. yes, the looks are very different. but the 87 bhp engine will be too powerful for average indian car users. it should have the 996 cc 60 bhp fuel efficient zen engine also.

I recently bought a Swift ZXi at Trivandrum. The car is good for the money. It comes decently kitted with airbags, ABS, climate control and electric windows all around. The climate control is excellent with a solar sensor and it keeps the interior temperature comfortable automatically at all times. It even cycles between fresh air and recirculate automatically to keep the air quality good.
The paint finish of the car is also very good. Well done Maruti.
The Swift drives well and is easy to drive with good driving position. It handles well too. However, there is no left footrest to keep the left foot on long highway drives. Although this is not so much of a problem due to the high driving position as one can rest the left foot on the floorboard. (I found this a bad problem in my previuos car, a 1998 Zen, which has sporty low driving position, but no left footrest!)
Coming to the all important mileage issue, I got around 10 kpl in the city with climate control on, all the time. Bear in mind that one hardly ever gets past the 3rd gear in the bumper to bumper extremely potholed traffic at Trivandrum. I did take it for a long trip as well, but unfortunately there were road works all the way on my trip, so that didnt help either, I clocked about 12kpl on this trip.
The downsides: A built in stereo and electrically adjustable ORVMs as standard would have been good. The interior plastic quality could have been better. There is also a lac of cubby holes on the dashboard to stick those essential gadgets like mobile phones. The rubber beading around the outside of the windows also looked patched up!
And the service received from dealer wasnt brilliant. The sales executives didnt know anything about the car at all! Maruti really needs to address this isuue. They would be loosing valuable customers otherwise!
Overall, I think it is a good car. I paid 5.5 lakhs on the road for this car in TVM, and for the money it gives good amount of safety and comfort and I believe it is a good buy. No other car around that price range offers what the Swift ZXi offers. (The VDi would have been a good car, had it offered ABS, airbabs and alloy wheels, at least as options).
Well done Maruti, for now, but I am sure the competition is catching up, so keep improving. Remember Maruti, the Indian consumer expects the best now!
